Bite-size! Why do little ones bite other kids? Really, I don’t know for sure. None of my kids were biters and as far as we know, our little 3 year old grandson, or Lily has never bit anyone either.
Last week, Landon came home from his daycare with a large imprint/bruise of a full set of teeth on his little upper arm, yikes! Well at least the skin was not broken. Mouths are very very dirty and these little ones seem to catch everything, and I mean EVERYTHING at daycare as it is. There is this super-sized boy in Landon’s daycare class. Seriously, he is so huge we asked who he was, thinking he might have been an older sibling or a teacher’s child, etc, nope! Apparently both his parents are over 6 feet tall. He is the one who bit Landon…I guess there was a misunderstanding on who’s turn it was to ride a tricycle. When we asked Landon later what had happened, he said his “friend” Nicholas bit him, lol! Not really funny, but he said he got ice on it and seemed to not be bothered by it anymore. The teachers did tell his Papa who picked him up that day, that Nicholas was on the bike and Landon wanted it. We did have the talk to Landon about sharing and waiting your turn, etc. He will probably wait his turn next time…
My son Jordan wasn’t even walking yet when another boy at a home daycare bit him in the nose. The little boy turned his head sideways and bit WHOLE nose. This was not pretty and little Jordy’s nose was punctured so it bled, swelled up double maybe triple its size, and turned every shade possible after initial black and blue. This one required a Dr. Visit as well.
One day I was visiting a neighbor with Lily's Mom Whitney when she was very little and barely sitting up. We were chatting away and Whitney let out a blood curdling scream. I could not figure out what happened until later that night at bath time. After undressing her, there it was, yep a full set of teeth bruise marks on her back, the skin was not broken but it was still awful. I felt so bad because she was so little and I had no idea what had happened. I went back and told the Mom what had happened and she bit her little girl back.
Some people do say to bite the kid back when they bite, etc, I don’t think that is the solution, and I still cannot figure out why some kids bite and others don’t…
