Harley Blue

I always love this time of year. The weather is unpredictable and we are far enough away from the holiday craziness that all I want to do is shoot! While the sun peeks out from time to time it is still so cold that shooting outdoors is not super awesome. So instead of sulking, I utilize my beautiful studio space to create some magic. I have quite a few fashion sessions coming up (and will try and post a model call…still looking for a few more kids to come play in the studio with me) and I am really excited to share some of the magic!

First up is Miss Harley Blue (Blue is her middle name). Ironically prior to knowing her middle name I already had a blue look I wanted to try in the studio. It was a win/win. This photo session was a collaboration of three photographers, my husband and good friend/colleague, Jim Choate. And I mean full on collaboration. Jim hired the model and provided the props/dress. I helped with stylizing and Dan contributed the set direction/lighting. When the three of us are thrown together it truly is magical.

But even as I choose that as my favorite I love so many of the photos. We had about an hour and a half with our model so we had to be efficient with our time. So we used the same dress and styling but switched it up with the lighting to completely change the mood of the shoot. I still LOVE the softness in the favorite photo (and a couple more) that makes me think of a young Debra Messing. But the dramatic lighting in the rest create a different kind of magic.
