Fashion Vintage Studio Session
You may have seen some of these posted on social media this summer but I wanted to take some time to give it the real love it deserves. When Covid first shut us down, I hit a hard rut as I am sure many others did. It took a bit for me to push ahead and realize I could still find some creativity. It started out with my Creepy Kids sessions where I photographed my kids in the studio. I had so much fun creating something a little different that I decided I needed to take it one step further.
I put out a model call online and Issy’s mom signed her up! I have been photographing Issy since she was a little girl and knew she was EXACTLY who I wanted for this session. Not only do I love photographing her, they had the perfect attire and accessories to pull this session off with flying colors. So much of what completes a session is the styling. You can have awesome light and an awesome model but if the styling is not on par it won’t be a home run.
This photo was one of my favorites from the entire session. I LOVE, LOVE. LOVE the red. Her expression, outfit and lighting just knocks it out of the park for me in this shot.
For my photographer friends or those interested in BTS:
Shot with a Canon 5D Mark 1V, 85 mm 1.8 lens, LED lighting used as a constant (no strobes), Red Gel on the background light and a blue gel on the hair light. We also had a can of smoke for the added texture. These were all edited in ON1 Photo Raw using my Fashion Preset Packs.
For those of you that don’t know, we built a studio on our property. I have always rented but am so thankful we were able to build what we wanted several years ago. I need to take more advantage of it than I do. It is like I forget that I have a studio at my fingertips (ridiculous I know). But when Dan and I get a burst of creativity we have a blast working together in our studio. Most of our studio sessions are a combo of the two of us. Dan is lighting control and some behind the scenes work while I shoot. But really we are a mad combo once we get going.
A huge thank you to Issy for being a rockstar model whom I LOVE photographing any time I am given the chance. And of course a thank you to her mom for killing it with the styling!
More soon coming from me! I am hoping to showcase some of my favorite sessions from the summer/fall that I didn’t have a chance to write about. It is time to share some love!
